Fuel prices are still rising and, even though we'll be on a sailboat, diesel fuel will comprise a significant part of our expenses.  A $4 donation is enough for one gallon of marine diesel--enough fuel to run our engine for one full hour or our generator for two full hours. 

When planning our route, we'll take precautions to avoid the most pirate-prone areas but there is always the chance that we will be boarded.  Many people set up a "ransom fund" to appease the pirates and ensure their release--currently our ransom fund stands at $39.24 (but this number will be updated as donations are received!).

Special thanks to the May Mob--Christian, Frank, Anne Marie and Emily--they were concerned that our ransom fund sat at $0.00 for too long, so they got together, did some extra chores and made the first donation ($39.24!) to the fund.  Thanks!
